Teen Mentoring Program

The Teen Mentoring program is similar to our Children's Mentoring program yet is geared more towards

girls aged 13-15.

When teens participate in these sessions, they are empowered to lead, make decisions and develop autonomy in a safe environment. The intention is for them to understand their own energy, sense of self and core needs. Services on the farm allow teens to move and access a variety of sensory experiences that allow them to become regulated and grounded. When teens feel safe and grounded, they become more aware of and willing to discuss their inner experiences. Many teens are drawn to this type of alternative therapeutic intervention as they learn to integrate experiences and heal through activities where they are empowered to take control of their own lives and actions.

These sessions incorporate a variety of modalities including:

  • Partnering with animals

  • Nervous System Regulation

  • Therapeutic games

  • A Parent Coaching component

A session on the farm might include someone walking the goats, sitting quietly with the rabbits, interacting with our barn cats, breathing and engaging with our horses, doing farm chores together, learning the needs of all our animals, or simply exploring the property. In the studio, time is spent exploring art materials, talking, playing therapeutic games, or exploring self-regulation activities. No matter how teens spend their time, the focus is on creating healthy, safe relationships, developing empowerment, and learning to trust their inner knowing so that these skills can then be transferred to life outside of the farm.

Skills developed through mentoring sessions:

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Confidence

  • Self-Regulation

  • Self-Compassion

  • Attention

  • Communication

  • Setting healthy boundaries/relationships

  • Self-Acceptance/Individuality

  • Leadership

This program is meant for clients seeking multiple, ongoing visits. Sessions are self-directed, and participants can choose to engage in activities that they are drawn to on any given day. Through self-inquiry, teens develop the skills to care for and manage their emotional health and well-being.

Parent Involvement:

We have learned that in order for teens to thrive, their parents need support as well. Part of our program involves communicating with parents so they can reflect on their role in the relationship and learn how to become a supportive partner to their teen. We evaluate each family's needs and offer Parent Support sessions for families that need additional support.

Self-direction enables teens to tap into their intrinsic motivation to learn more about themselves. It helps them dig deeper and transform their understanding of their thoughts and how they relate to others.
